The Second Amendment Means What It Says - It Is Our Right!
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
I am an NRA Certified hand gun and self defense instructor as well as one of a small group of Certified South Dakota Concealed Carry Permit Instructors -
I practice what I preach!
Honestly, the 2A is not hard to understand. It means the Government shall not infringe on the rights of a free people to own, keep and use guns. A militia by definition is 'the people', NOT the government. The National Guard is a government run organization.
The debate over this issue was settled before December 15, 1791. They knew exactly what they were doing, what they meant and the purpose of their actions were undeniable. The modern courts and anti-gun crowd do understand this and their argument is pure revisionist propaganda. If you are a student of history, or were a history student before the liberalizing of textbooks started in the 1960s, you fully understand the meaning and intentions of Congress.
To understand what the Second Amendment truly means; all you have to do is study the writings and debates of the time it was being considered.
My personal belief is that the Government has no right to tell me how, when and where I can protect my family and myself. This right is fundamental. The argument that police can protect us from every threat is not only misguided, it is dangerous and foolish. To lull people into a false sense of security is and endangerment in itself.
I do support Constitutional Carry. I also support an individuals right to keep a safely secured firearm in their vehicle no matter where they choose to drive and park. Additionally I believe any adult who is legally allowed to possess a firearm should be able to do so on state and private school property.
The concept that gun-free zones are safe zones is foolish. We lull people into believing the Government can take care of you when common sense tells you that is not possible. I will fight to protect the Second Amendment and strengthen the State’s position to refute Federal Government encroachment on State’s Rights.
