I believe that the experience and skills I can bring to the table are valuable to being an open minded, knowledgeable Legislator for District 16.
As you have read elsewhere on this site I am currently a small business owner. Prior to that I owned an IT consulting company, Innovative Systems, working with mid frame IBM systems and writing custom programming. A few of my Customers were Fimco Manufacturing in North Sioux City, Western Auto and Northern Auto, both in Sioux City. For nearly 5 years I commuted every day from north of Canton to Sioux City. I watched the growth of Dakota Dunes and business expansion in North Sioux City. In those days Gateway and Fimco were the only major employers. Today those communities are still growing.
I also witnessed the devastation caused by the flooding that occurred and the destruction that swept all the way through Iowa and into Missouri. Some would argue that this could have been avoided with different water management. I visited with experts down stream as far as into Tennessee and had we released water earlier, it would have destroyed levies and likely destroyed many communities farther south since they were already experiencing major flooding along the Mississippi. There was no easy answer.
From 1977 to 1992 I was the regional IT Coordinator for a multi-warehouse wholesale pharmaceutical distributer. During those years I was involved in specialty programming for many Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and organized hospital purchasing groups. These were the forerunners of today’s prescription marketing pools which have made prescriptions so unaffordable for anyone not affiliated with a group, and paved the way fro Medicaid Part B. Like it or not these are here to stay. If Obama Care were to be repealed all of these prescription plans could be debated once again.
In 1982 I joined the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s reserve and became a certified law enforcement officer in the state of South Dakota. I later became President of the Reserve and worked with many of the officers still working in Minnehaha County and the Sioux Falls Police Force.
In 1995 and 1996 I worked part time in Hudson South Dakota as their police officer.
